Surveillance cameras rolled as a brazen burglar was seen trying to break into someone’s car in a Southwest Miami-Dade neighborhood, and residents say this is not an isolated incident.Speaking with 7News on Sunday, neighbors shared their concerns about what they described as a stealing spree.“It’s a little bit worrying,” said an area resident who identified himself as Jose. “It’s the same kid in several videos, actually.”“It sucks that you have to, like, be vigilant. One more thing to think about,” said an area resident who identified himself as Carlos.Area residents said it was apparently the same teen, seen dressed in jeans and a black Chucky sweater, who pulled on car door handles in the dark of night, sometimes striking out and other times getting lucky.“Knowing that we could make an innocent mistake like just leave our car unlocked,” said Jose, “which, you know, that shouldn’t have any consequence.R...Antisemitic graffiti found scrawled in gated Cooper City neighborhood, prompting increase in security

Residents of a Cooper City said they were disturbed to find messages of hate in their community, and now they want to know who’s behind them. The antisemitic messages were initially discovered in the gated community Monterra on Saturday morning.“Two writings on the cement walkway, as well as one on a bench,” said Avi Fishman, president of the neighborhood’s homeowners association.Fishman shared several pictures of the disturbing graffiti with 7News on Sunday.“Homeowners are very concerned about this. Not only Jewish homeowners, but all homeowners,” he said. One of the messages reads, “I am Muslim, and say: kill all Jews.” Another reads, “By Allah, free Gaza, kill all Jews.”The three messages were written at a time when tensions are high, as war rages on in the Middle East between Israel and Hamas.“We immediately notified the authorities” said Fishman. “As a community, we’ve also hired additional resour...Seeing more than HIV: A person-centered approach to HIV care

Progress made over the past 40 years has turned HIV from a death sentence into a manageable condition. Today, with regular treatment, people living with HIV can live and age well with HIV. The groundbreaking development of effective HIV medicines has enabled many to suppress the virus to undetectable — and untransmittable — levels (U=U), meaning the virus cannot be passed on. Alongside access to prevention methods and services, this has contributed to a steady decline in new infections and deaths from HIV and AIDSi. Yet, there is no time for complacency if we are to eliminate it once and for allii. In 2016, United Nations member countries committed to end the AIDS epidemic by 2030iii, but approximately 100,000 people are diagnosed each year across Europeiv. The fight is far from over because tackling HIV goes far beyond viral suppression. Mindful of that, in 2021, UNAIDS put forward a new strategy that revolves around closing the inequality gap that is fueling the HIV and AIDS e...Four reasons the EU needs to rethink its approach to biofuels

If there’s anything we’ve learned from the mostly completed saga of adopting the EU’s Fit for 55 climate package, it’s that the EU needs a new way to think about biofuels and their contribution to transport de-fossilization.The role of sustainable biofuels in the transition from a fossil-based economy to carbon neutrality has often been the subject of intense and often misinformed debate during the whole Fit for 55 process, but as the EU enters a new political cycle there is cause for optimism that Europe could move to a more constructive discussion.A mindset-shift is needed if the EU wants to achieve its goals for climate change mitigation, food security and energy independence.Consider the recent declaration by the G7 group of leading economic nations — in a statement co-signed by EU leaders — that sustainable biofuels have a vital role to play in reducing transport emissions. This was a welcome turnaround from recent policy developments that did not take into full account the pro...Mike Preston: Make no mistake, Ravens defense is still the star of the show | COMMENTARY

The Ravens defense is as good as advertised.Baltimore entered Sunday’s game against Detroit with the NFL’s No. 2 overall defense but had not played an offense as complete as the Lions’. Then the Ravens shut them down. Actually, it was a beatdown, 38-6.There will be a lot of talk about Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson and the offense after they scored five touchdowns and a field goal on 10 possessions and piled up 503 yards of total offense, but the story of this win was the Ravens defense. This group has been consistent all season, and it has to be that way because the offense is erratic. On Sunday, the Ravens shut out Detroit for three quarters and allowed only 337 yards of total offense, 97 of which came in the first half when the game was still somewhat competitive. If the Lions are one of the best offenses in the NFL, then what does that say about the Ravens defense? Baltimore crushed Detroit until the last quarter, when it was garbage time.“If I recall, I ...Ravens blow out Lions, 38-6, behind Lamar Jackson’s big day and stifling defense: ‘It’s time to separate’

In Lamar Jackson’s words, the Ravens showed a “glimpse” of what they’re capable of doing.Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell put it another way.“They kicked our [butts],” Campbell said. “Lamar beat us. He hammered us with his arm. He threw the ball extremely well. He ran when he needed to, and we did not handle it well.”It was also what Baltimore has been expected to do since signing Jackson to a five-year, $260 million contract extension, overhauling the wide receiver group and implementing what was supposed to be a more explosive scheme under offensive coordinator Todd Monken. The Ravens (5-2) spent more money on offense than any team in the NFL this offseason, and Sunday at M&T Bank Stadium, it finally paid off.The Lions (5-2) came into Baltimore with just one loss and with one of the most explosive offenses in the NFL, averaging 28 points and 383.7 yards per game and having scored at least 20 points in 15 straight dating to last s...Matt Poitras scores twice to lead B’s to 3-1 win over Anaheim

The time may have come for Matt Poitras to find some permanent digs in Boston. The 19-year-old rookie has been trying to prove that he belongs in the National Hockey League instead of back with the US junior team in Guelph, and he made the best case possible on Sunday night in Anaheim.Poitras scored his first two career goals in the third period to lift the B’s to a 3-1 come-from-behind win over the Ducks in Anaheim. Before Poitras struck, it appeared the game was getting away form the B’s.The Ducks had broken a scoreless tie at 5:05 of the third period off the rush. Kevin Shattenkirk got caught trying to pinch and the Ducks were off to the races. Eventually, Mason MacTavish cleaned a up a Ryan Strome pass on a 2-on-1.But the B’s tied it up just 1:24 later on a momentous goal. Poitras had been the B’s most creative player from the second period on .But at 6:29, he was the recipient of a sweet feed. Off the rush, Morgan Geekie took the puck in deep on his off wi...Latest news
