Goldie Chan Is Ready (Again) To Be The Breakout Star of 2024

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 09:23:37 GMT

Progress is never linear. It is full of starts and stops and restarts. Last month as Goldie Chan took the stage at Adobe Max, here in Los Angeles, where she has lived for the past seven years, it wasn’t a typical speech at a large conference. The muscle memory was there. As a top global speaker, she has done this for years. But the topic was absolutely new, deeply raw, deeply personal. She was speaking about restarts, something everyone will probably experience in their career, but her journey was abrupt. Her career was skyrocketing and then in 2022, she was diagnosed with cancer. Ten years ago, Sandy Gerber was a single mother of two toddlers and worked out of her bedroom corner desk. Tackling financial responsibility head-on, she poured herself into her career in marketing and communications. However, as she received accolades and awards in her professional life, her personal life was suffering with two failed marriages. Little did she know help would come in a dusty old book from a second-hand bookstore. The antiquated book she found contained a study on the emotional appeal theory from the 1960s. While the terminology was unsurprisingly outdated, the theory it revealed resonated with her. “I had the eureka moment people often speak about: I realized why I had made the choices I did in my personal relationships, in my career, and even in my parenting. The book left me stunned. I immediately understood what my emotional appeals were, and I embraced them.” Applying her newfound knowledge of her emotional appeals to her life and business, she quickly experienc...

It’s time to start the ball rolling on San Jose’s 250th anniversary

The Pueblo de San Jose de Guadalupe was founded Nov. 29, 1777, which means that the modern city of San Jose is blowing out 246 candles on its birthday cake. That also means the city’s 250th birthday is just four years away, and while that may sound like a long time out, it’s really not.Planning needs to start now on how to mark the major milestone, especially if we want it to be an event the entire city can take part in and be proud of.When San Jose turned 200 in 1977, the events included the dedication of Pellier Park (which, coincidentally, was rebuilt and re-dedicated this year) and a luncheon sponsored by Bank of America — then the LeBaron Hotel, which honored 56 companies and organizations that had been around for more than a century. More than 600 people gathered at the old City Hall on North First Street for the dedication of a plaque, and San Jose designated its first 10 city landmarks, including the East San Jose Carnegie Library and the Winchester Mystery...

She said she is working to travel to the US to be with her son and hopes to arrive in about 24 hours.“The last I knew, he was still in the ICU, immobilized, to try and get the swelling down on his back,” Price said.Awartani’s clavicle is...
